Yankees release Carlos Carrasco while seeking consistency in the rotation

The experiment with Carlos Carrasco has come to an end.

On Tuesday, the Yankees decided to designate the veteran pitcher after he posted a rather disappointing 5.91 ERA across six starts and eight appearances.

Since they were already planning to skip Carrasco’s turn in the rotation, the team now finds itself in need of a fifth starter for their upcoming game in Seattle.

Ryan Yarbra showed promise as a long relief option, but he isn’t really suited to start regularly.

Meanwhile, Alan Winance has been performing remarkably well at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, not allowing any runs in his last 14 innings pitched.

In light of Carrasco’s struggles, the Yankees recalled right-handed reliever Yerry de los Santos.

It seems they recognized that despite Carrasco’s noteworthy 16-year career, he wasn’t reliable anymore, especially at 38 years old.
