Ben Rice had his day.

The New York Yankees rookie first baseman made franchise history by leading his team to another victory on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox.

Rice became the first Yankees rookie to hit three home runs in a single game, and helped the Yankees end a four-game losing streak with a 14–4 victory. Rice was 3-for-5 with seven RBIs.

“This is definitely a day we’ll remember,” Rice said. Via MLB.com“It’s a big win for us, a nice come-from-behind win and we’re excited to beat the hometown team. It’s pretty cool.”

After hitting his third home run, Yankee Stadium fans urged him to take a curtain call, and the 25-year-old took nearly a minute to emerge from the dugout, but eventually did.

“It all happened so fast,” Rice said. “Thank goodness we scored. It was awesome!”

Hitting three home runs against the Red Sox was even sweeter for Rice, a native of Cohasset, Massachusetts, who as a kid signed “Yankees Rules” for Pesky Paul at Fenway Park.

“It’s definitely a day I’ll remember,” Rice said. “I’m excited to get a big win against my hometown team.”

Rice will be hoping for a little more magic to help the Tigers win the series against Boston on Sunday.
