Yankees Struggle in Series Against Marlins

MIAMI – The Yankees rolled into town Thursday night, riding a wave of momentum after winning four out of five games, bolstered by the recent trading deadline.

Excitement surrounded the team, yet by the weekend, it felt like they were losing their grip on that energy.

The series took a nosedive when Lewis Gill made his season debut on Sunday, resulting in a 7-3 loss that left the Yankees in a tough spot.

The weekend’s woes began with a painful 13-12 defeat on Friday night, a game where the trade deadline efforts weren’t enough.

Jazz Chisholm Jr.’s base running error nearly cost the Marlins the game on Saturday, leading to a 2-0 shutout.

As the thrill of Gill’s return faded, the offense fell silent again on Sunday.

Currently, the Yankees sit at 60-52, third in the AL East, trailing the Red Sox by 1½ games and lagging four games behind the Blue Jays.

For the second consecutive day, the Yankees struggled against Marlins starter Edward Cabrera.

Gill didn’t last long, exiting after just over three innings, giving up five runs while struggling with his control.

During the fourth inning, with two men on, left-handed Brent Headrick faced Kyle Storer, giving up a crucial three-run homer that pushed the Marlins ahead, marking their record at .500 (55-55).

Chisholm attempted to rally the Yankees with a two-run homer in the seventh, but the Marlins quickly responded and dampened any momentum.

After a disappointing stretch the previous day, Trent Grisham broke through with a home run at the start.

However, the brief positivity was short-lived as Gill walked the second batter of the inning, continuing his struggles.

In a tense moment, No. 9 batter Troy Johnston evened the score with an RBI double, providing a glimmer of hope.

Yet, Gill faced more challenges, once again walking a batter in the fourth, leading to a challenging day on the mound.
