Notable items during the Yankees’ spring training practice Thursday in Tampa:
Impressionism
New left-handed relief pitcher Victor Gonzalez pitched an inning in live batting practice and immediately made an impression on Aaron Boone.
“There’s a lot to like about it,” Boone said. “He’s a player who has pitched in some big games in his career. His reputation is that he’s not afraid of any moment or situation. I’m excited. [for] What does he bring to our team? ”
high and low
The Yankees’ defensive practice also included high-flying infield defense.
The only blunder was DJ LeMahieu dropping the ball on the backside of the mound.
It caught my eye
Aaron Judge, Alex Verdugo, Juan Soto and Trent Grisham are all new teammates, but they all seem to enjoy each other’s company.
The two took batting practice together, had a lot of laughs, and Verdugo used Judge’s bat for one round, after which Judge gave the crowd a round of applause.
Friday schedule
The Yankees will hold their final full-team practice before the Grapefruit League schedule begins Saturday against the Tigers in Lakeland, Florida.
