If you’re still waiting for Derek Jeter to take over at shortstop in the Old Timers Game, don’t get your hopes up.
For the third straight year, the Yankees will not play an Old Timers’ Day game during the Aug. 24 event.
Instead, the Yankees will be celebrating the 15th anniversary of their 2009 World Series championship team.
The match will not be played again this season, but a future fixture has not been ruled out.
Last year, the team held a question-and-answer session with members of the 1998 World Series team, and next year marks the 25th anniversary of the 2000 team that won the World Series.
But in a year without any notable milestones, he may resume playing again.
The last time the match was played was in 2019, with no games taking place in 2020 or 2021 due to COVID-19.

When the event resumed in 2022, matches could not be held due to injuries to some of the veteran players.
