Yankees Eyeing Al East Title

After a rollercoaster season, the Yankees are in the hunt for another AL East title, trailing the Blue Jays by just two games.

They’re also in a solid position for a wildcard spot—barring an absolute disaster—but topping the division still holds significance.

Take a look at the Yankees’ performance under Aaron Boone.

Since he became manager in 2018, they’ve clinched the division three times and made it to the ALCS each year, including this one.

However, in four other playoff runs, their journey ended early at the ALDS, particularly when they entered as wildcard contenders.

So, catching up to the Blue Jays with only 19 games left is crucial, especially as they gear up for a key series against the Tigers starting Tuesday.

Boone acknowledged the importance of finishing in first place during a press conference on Monday.

Given their standing going into the postseason, it’s no surprise the Yankees were pleased with their performance over the weekend, which included capitalizing on some of the Blue Jays’ strategy.

During a pivotal at-bat, Aaron Judge was on base and making noise, while Cody Bellinger also advanced. This set the stage for Ben Rice’s three-run homer, which helped the Yankees secure the series and cut down Toronto’s lead in the division.

After the game, Toronto’s manager, John Schneider, commented on the Yankees’ strategic play, mentioning their knack for reading pitches. Boone, on the other hand, didn’t shy away from his tactics.

“We’re doing our best to make sure every team is at a disadvantage whenever possible,” Boone stated during a gala event. “It’s a competitive game, and we’ll continuously seek out any edge we can find. If you can leverage that, it’s just part of the game.”
