he is tied up with a rope.
Paramount Network's popular ranch drama “Yellowstone” is in its penultimate episode.
And for some reason, creator Taylor Sheridan spent the majority of his time writing sequences focused on himself in this episode.
Spoilers for Season 5 Episode 13, “Give the World Away.”
“Yellowstone” follows the Dutton family, owners of Montana’s largest ranch. There, the late patriarch John (Kevin Costner), who was also the governor, and his adult children Casey (Luke Grimes), Jamie (Wes Bentley), Beth (Kelly Reilly), and Beth She has a husband, Rip (Cole Hauser).
Costner left the show during the first half of season five amid rumors of a feud with Sheridan. The series initially resolved Costner's absence by killing John in a hitman-mandated murder made to look like suicide.
In addition to producing and writing the series, Sheridan also plays Travis, a horse trainer. In this episode, Travis is on a date with Sadie, played by supermodel Bella Hadid.
During that time, Beth visits Travis and Sadie answers the door. Beth soon spots Travis in a scene worthy of the late Hugh Hefner, partying with a crowd of young women.
When Beth asks why Sadie is dating Travis, she points out that he's a smug bastard 25 years older than her, and Sadie asks, “Have you ever seen him ride?” answer.
The camera then cuts to Sheridan riding, which should surprise us.
Then again, when Yellowstone star Kevin Costner left the movie, creator Taylor Sheridan apparently decided to write more scenes for himself to compensate for his absence. . He shows off his horse-riding skills and makes Travis into a ladies' man in a long, unnecessary, self-indulgent sequence. Sheridan wrote one line for Beth that says to her character, “You're such a terrible, kingly piece of shit, it's almost charming.”
This is how we spent the penultimate episode of “Yellowstone.” It's certainly a choice.
Eventually, the plot moves towards more important issues.
After Sarah (Dawn Olivieri) is killed by a hitman, the FBI searches her old office. Sarah had booked the attack on John, so the police are trying to figure out how he died.
Jamie, who was in a relationship with Sarah, visits Christina (Katherine Cunningham), the mother of his child. John's death is being investigated as a murder, Sarah has just died under suspicious circumstances, and Jamie lives under a cloud of suspicion.
Christina, who was also Jamie's campaign manager during his campaign for Montana attorney general, gives him political advice. She praises her father in a speech, telling Jamie that his death was “more than just a murder… It was a murder that took away the right of the people of the state of Montana to choose their representatives… It was a murder that took away their freedom.” “It was,” he tells them to declare. And you will take revenge on them. ”
The ranch then auctions off the horses and cattle. Beth explained that the move would net them $30 million, which would pay the ranch's astronomical taxes and buy the ranch for “another year.”
Rip asks the oldest rancher, Lloyd (Foley J. Smith), to stay and continue working on the ranch. Lloyd is moved when he points out that the ranch has been his home for over 40 years.
But he's also confused. “Nothing stays here,” he says.
“Yes, if you make it again, it will be there,” Rip replied.
Meanwhile, “Yellowstone” reminds us that John Dutton hasn't even had a funeral yet. So, it looks like the show will end with this depressing scene.
Casey reveals he has a secret plan to save the ranch. When he discusses money with Beth, she tells him that taxes are based on how much you pay for something.
Beth has an epiphany when she realizes what Casey is planning. He explains his plan: “The only way to save this place is to let it go.”
The episode ends with that cryptic line.
So as “Yellowstone” gears up for next week's Season 5 finale, and possibly the series finale, we'll see John's funeral, Beth and Jamie's showdown, and Casey managing to save the ranch by “giving.” It seems to end with Away. ”
“Yellowstone” airs Sundays at 8 p.m. on Paramount Network.
