Big Joke, the younger brother of famous rapper Yo Gotti, was shot and killed Saturday outside a Memphis restaurant in what police are calling a targeted attack, according to multiple reports.
Memphis police were called to reports of two men shot outside Perignon's Restaurant and Event Center around 4:15 p.m.
One of the victims, Anthony “Big Joke” Mims, was rushed to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. According to Fox13.
The second person was taken to the same hospital by private vehicle and then airlifted to Regional One Health in Memphis in critical condition.
Memphis Police Deputy Chief Paul Wright said the two victims were at the restaurant to eat.
According to TMZMims, the “I Am” rapper's older brother, had attended a relative's funeral in his hometown earlier that day.
Police have not identified any suspects and no arrests have been made.
“We feel the person who was shot may have been targeted by the suspect.” light said During a press conference.
Police were unable to connect the rapper as the investigation is still in its preliminary stages.
Big Jook's Instagram page promotes his brother's record label, CMG The Label (also known as Collective Media Group), and he has appeared in several music videos released by the label, but mostly was about the business side.
It is unclear whether Yo Gotti was with Big Joke at the time of the shooting, and he has not released any statements regarding his brother's death.
Yo Gotti, real name Mario Sentel Gidden Mims, broke into the rap world in 1996 as Lil Yo with his debut album Youngsters on a Come Up.
He later changed his stage name to Yo Gotti and was nominated for several BET Hip Hop Awards, including Album of the Year for 2014's “I Am.”
The rapper has performed with Nicki Minaj, Lil Uzi Vert, Kanye West and more.
