You Are ‘More Fearlessness than Anyone in Congress’

On ABC's “The View” on Wednesday, co-host Joy Behar told Washington, D.C. Episcopal Bishop Marian Budde that she is “more fearless than anyone in Congress right now.”

On Tuesday, Budde said at the National Prayer Meeting: “Please have mercy on the people of our country who are scared right now. There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some of whom are fearing for their lives. They also harvest crops and work in the office. People who clean restaurants, work at poultry farms or meatpacking plants, wash dishes after eating at restaurants, or work night shifts at hospitals may not be citizens or may not have the proper documentation. However, the majority of immigrants are not criminals.

“You seem to have more fearlessness than anyone in Congress right now,” Behar said. “What made you want to use that opportunity to send this message, or were you nervous about that?” ”

“My responsibility that morning, yesterday morning, was to reflect and pray for the unity of our people,” Budde said. “And as I was thinking about what the foundations of unity are. I wanted to emphasize that we respect the honor and dignity of every human being, basic honesty and humility, and that unity includes a degree of compassion, compassion, and understanding. I also realized that there is a need, and as I said in our country right now, that many people are really scared.I want to take this opportunity to serve unity. In context, I wanted to say that we need to treat everyone with dignity. And we need to be merciful.”

“Thank you so much for showing people what empathy looks like,” Behar said.
