California Governor Signs Emergency Funding Bill for Planned Parenthood
On Wednesday, California Governor Gavin Newsom held a press conference and approved legislation providing Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers with $90 million in what he called “one-time emergency funding.”
Surrounded by a group of women—including his wife, Jennifer Siebel Newsom—who took the opportunity to address reporters, she highlighted an interesting dynamic. Despite the presence of Planned Parenthood, the discussions seemed to stray towards other topics. “It’s surprising,” she noted, “that women make up 51 percent of the population, yet most questions were about completely different issues.”
She might have, perhaps jokingly, asked, “What about me? Why isn’t the focus on women’s issues?”
She elaborated, mentioning a recurring theme, saying, “This pattern keeps happening, and we need to reflect on the ongoing issues women face in our country. It feels at times that the attention is lacking, and that’s a concern I feel strongly about,” ending with a brief laugh.
During the event, there was a moment when her comments prompted laughter and applause from the women nearby. Meanwhile, Newsom remained largely still. It left some wondering if it was a planned move or if he didn’t appreciate sharing the stage. “With such remarkable women here, it’s vital to focus on today’s agenda, right?” she concluded before leaving the podium, which displayed a sign proclaiming, “Stop President Trump’s War on Women.”
While some observers noted the couple’s shared qualities, particularly regarding their strong views, it also sparked conversations about their public personas.
