Arrest of Murder Suspect in Atlanta Captured on Camera
Dash and body camera footage has surfaced showing Atlanta’s special forces officers tackling a murder suspect who was armed with a fully automatic handgun. This incident was highlighted in a video released earlier this month.
On October 28, police from the Motor Vehicle Enforcement Unit were notified of a homicide suspect driving near Pickfair Way Southwest, close to Ashwood Avenue Northwest.
Upon locating the suspect’s vehicle, officers maneuvered their patrol vehicle to block him in. However, the suspect, armed with a handgun converted into a fully automatic weapon, attempted to escape by ramming into police cars positioned both in front and behind.
As he fled, the suspect discarded his weapon into a nearby wooded area before officers moved in to apprehend him.
“Keep your feet on the ground!” shouted one officer as they approached the suspect.
The suspect quickly surrendered, lying on the street and exclaiming, “I got you!” as he complied with the officers’ commands.
Police identified the suspect as 37-year-old Keith Hawkins, wanted for a murder that occurred on April 9 in the 700 block of Eloise Street SE. He faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, among others.
Hawkins was subsequently taken to the Fulton County Jail for processing.
