You should be in rehab, not Congress

Washington – Just Wednesdays.

Tensions between Representative Nancy Mace and Ilhan Omar escalated into a fiery exchange of words.

Mace (R-SC) criticized Omar (D-MN) for her remarks about Charlie Kirk, raising questions about her previous comments regarding Somalia and the consequences of actions.

“Ilhan Omar herself stated: Actions have consequences. Time to live up to that,” Mace declared on X.

It was a pointed comment following the backlash against Omar for a video that suggested Kirk’s death had its own kind of irony.

Starting the day off with an undeniable assertion, Mace said, “Good morning to everyone who doesn’t celebrate political killings.” This message hinted at Omar’s controversial repost of a video referencing Kirk’s assassination.

As of Wednesday, that repost remained visible on Omar’s X account.

In response to Kirk’s assassination, Omar expressed a lack of sympathy, stating, “my heart won’t break for his family,” although she also denounced violence in her comments.

She sidestepped Mace’s accusations, claiming Mace was merely trying to distract while pushing forward her campaign for governor.

“I know you’re not clever, but just understand: there’s no link between my assignments and deportation,” Omar retorted to Mace’s jabs about Somalia.

Mace fired back, saying, “We want to see you deported to Somalia.”

Omar countered, suggesting Mace needed help instead of, well, public office. It was getting personal, surely.

To complicate matters, Mace went on to reference previous, unfounded claims about Omar’s family, an attack that seemed to hit below the belt.

Mace’s official account even suggested a “one-way ticket to Somalia” for Omar, which prompted an equally sarcastic reply from Omar, affirming her presence in Congress would continue regardless.

Both legislators have offices situated on the same floor of the Longworth House Office Building—a detail that adds an awkward layer to their ongoing feud.

A vote on Mace’s resolution could happen as early as that Wednesday, as she pushed for it to be addressed swiftly.

There’s also chatter among South Carolina Republicans about taking a more serious stance against Omar altogether, though it’s important to note they would need a significant majority to act on that.

Across the aisle, Omar’s “squad” colleague Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) faced backlash from the GOP for his own inflammatory remarks in late 2023.
