Conservative students from the University of Iowa's Young People for Freedom (YAF) found a banner advertising a pro-Israel event defaced less than three hours after it was posted on campus.
YAF's banner advertises an upcoming event featuring conservative author and podcast host Ian Howarth, who will participate in a Q&A on October 7, the first anniversary of the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel. He is scheduled to arrive on the University of Iowa campus for the event.
YAF National Chair Jasmine Jordan told Breitbart News that Howarth's Q&A included “advocating for the release of hostages, debunking lies told about Israel, and combating the rise of anti-Semitism around the world.” He said this includes:
“It's no surprise that our banner was vandalized,” Jordan told Breitbart News. “We've experienced this kind of hostility before at the Paula Scanlan event in March. “That's because I was there,” he said. “The original Paula Scanlan banner was ripped off the fence, crumpled and stomped on, probably by someone employed by the university.”
“Additionally, our chalk messages will be erased and posters will be taken down almost immediately on campus and throughout downtown Iowa City,” Jordan explained. “In group chats and social media, some people have even called for members of our organization to be ‘hammered’. It's scary that they're openly calling for this.”
“This is a Big Ten university that has regular tours,” Jordan added. “How can prospective students feel safe, accepted, and welcomed when their identities and fundamental beliefs are under attack, as left-wing groups continue to get away with these acts, as universities claim? Can you feel it?”
“The taking of hostages is not a political issue and should not be silenced. That is exactly what terrorist sympathizers are aiming for by attacking our propaganda,” the YAF national chairman insisted.
Jordan continued:
I spoke with UIowa Event Services who allowed me to advertise with banners to get the word out. I also contacted the University of Iowa Police Department and provided a formal statement. They said they would check the camera footage and keep us updated. We also reached out to UIowa Student Accountability. Blatant and intentional hatred should never be tolerated, so I plan to request a meeting with the university president to discuss this matter. Following the previous incident with Paula Scanlan's banner, cameras were installed above this location, so we hope those responsible will be identified and prosecuted.
Jordan added: “This act of vandalism does not change our plans for the event.” “We will continue to promote the truth on our campus with more zeal and determination than ever, because this action only highlights how much our campus needs the truth.”
The YAF National President continued: “If you would like to speak to the person who defaced our banner, I encourage you to attend a YAF meeting, stop by our table, or come to one of our events and ask Ian your questions. “I guess so.”
“I would love to understand why they did what they did,” Jordan said.
As reported by Breitbart News, the massacre of Jews that occurred in Israel on October 7, 2023, inspired students across the United States to hold pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel demonstrations on college campuses and promote far-left politics. at a higher education institution that shocked the nation with its approach.
In July, Jordan told Breitbart News that because of radicalization on college campuses in recent years, she noticed that non-conservative students were becoming more involved with the political left.
