Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday that student protesters “don’t know much” about the Middle East.
Asked about protests on college campuses across the country, Clinton said, “First of all, like you, I’ve had a lot of conversations with a lot of young people over the last few months. You’re right. They don’t know anything about the history of the Middle East, and frankly they don’t know much about the history of many parts of the world, including our country.My husband, then-Prime Minister of Israel, Ehud Barak. They know nothing about what he, the Palestine Liberation Organization, and Yasser Arafat, then head of the Palestinian Authority, came together to give the Palestinians 100% of their desired territory. A proposal was made to give the state 96% of the existing territory occupied by the Palestinians and 4% of Israel.
She added: And if Yasser Arafat had accepted it, there would have been a Palestinian state for about 24 years from now. His inability to say yes is one of the great tragedies of history. You know, my husband talks in his book Joe, which will be published later this year, about how President Arafat kept saying he wanted to agree, but he was convinced he would be killed. . ”
