A young mother in Los Angeles was tragically shot while resting in her bedroom, alongside her infant daughter and boyfriend. The incident occurred in the 400 block of West 103rd Street in the Vista, Vermont area around 3:35 a.m. on July 19.
The victim has been identified as 20-year-old Maria Barrios Ventura, according to the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
This sudden and devastating event has left her family in deep grief. A relative expressed that, “She was a loving mother, and her absence is felt profoundly by those who knew her.” In her memory, a GoFundMe campaign has been created to support her young daughter and cover funeral expenses, including repatriating her body to Guatemala.
When officers from the Los Angeles Police Department responded to the scene, they found Ventura suffering from gunshot injuries. Despite efforts by paramedics, she was pronounced dead at the site of the shooting.
Ventura’s aunt, Liliana López, noted how deeply affected everyone is by this loss, underscoring Ventura’s devotion as a mother.
