Details Emerge on Missile Defense at Al Udeid Air Force Base
Chairman Dan Kane recently discussed the young team left to defend Al Udeid Air Force Base while facing an assault from Iranian missiles on Monday. He emphasized that this marks one of the largest deployments of the US surface-to-air missile defense system in military history, stating, “We have Qatar Patriot Cruises on this engagement.”
Kane noted that there were 44 soldiers, aged between 21 and 28, remaining after evacuations. With only two Patriot systems left, these soldiers were tasked with protecting a base that serves as a key hub for 10,000 deployed American troops in the region.
“You’re quite young—25 or 26. You’re stationed as a tactics director within command and control operations. And at that age, you’re responsible for defending the base,” Kane explained.
Iran Provokes with Missile Attack on US Bases
While the exact number of Iranian missiles that breached the defense remains unclear, it’s reported that at least one missile got through. “There were a lot of metals flying around. Our defenders had mere seconds to make critical decisions,” Kane remarked.
“They absolutely crushed it,” he added, praising the soldiers for their efforts amid the chaos.
The missile strikes from Iran were a response to attacks on US nuclear facilities, with President Donald Trump indicating that Iran had provided some prior notice of their strikes as a symbolic gesture of retaliation without escalating the conflict.
Operation Midnight Hammer Overview
Iran utilized short and medium-range ballistic missiles targeting the Al Udeid base, though fortunately, no casualties have been reported. This base not only plays a pivotal role in logistical operations against ISIS in Iraq and Syria but also serves as the front headquarters for Central Command and supports British airstrike efforts against ISIS.
