Here we go again with another episode of TV rights drama.
The college football season is just around the corner, and, as usual, we’re faced with yet another issue regarding television contracts.
Reports indicate that Fox and YouTube TV are currently at an impasse in negotiations. If they can’t reach an agreement soon, YouTube TV will potentially lose networks like Fox and FS1, along with others.
Meanwhile, there is still some time to resolve NFL-related negotiations, but with college football kicking off imminently, urgency is in the air. Fox is gearing up for a notable matchup between Texas and Ohio State this Saturday, complete with pre-game events and commentary from Gus Johnson.
Before that big showdown, Auburn and Baylor will face off on Friday night, also broadcast by Fox.
YouTube TV has warned that if a deal with Fox isn’t secured by Wednesday at 5 PM, all mentioned channels will disappear from their lineup—just over 48 hours before the kickoff for Auburn and Baylor.
In their official statement, YouTube TV mentioned, “Our current agreement with Fox is nearing its renewal date, and we are actively negotiating to continue offering their content.” They added that Fox’s demands are significantly higher than those of comparable networks. Their aim is to strike a fair deal without passing on extra costs to subscribers.
They also reassured customers by saying, “We are working diligently to reach an agreement. We know this uncertainty is frustrating, and in the event that Fox content is unavailable for a prolonged period, we’re offering members a $10 credit.”
As a subscriber to YouTube TV, I just hope this gets sorted out soon.
