Pop star Taylor Swift officially endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, entering the 2024 race, just minutes after Tuesday's presidential debate. In a lengthy Instagram post, Swift addressed J.D. Vance's “childless cat-loving woman” comments and posted a photo of herself holding a cat before endorsing Harris. But Swift told her followers they should make their own choice and do their own research.
“Like many of you, I watched tonight's debate, and if you haven't already, now is a great time to find out where the candidates stand on the issues at hand and the issues that matter most to you. As a voter, I make it a point to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country,” she said.
Swift then referenced a story about Trump sharing a photo of an AI that mistakenly showed her endorsing him, saying it served as a reminder of her “fear of AI and the danger of spreading misinformation.”
“I've come to the conclusion that, as voters, I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election. The easiest way to counter misinformation is to tell the truth,” she said.
She said she plans to vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, specifically praising the vice presidential nominee for “standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and women's right to their bodies for decades.”
“I did my research and I made a choice. You are responsible for your research and the choice is yours. And I would say, especially to people who are voting for the first time, remember that you need to register to vote. And I think it's much easier to vote early. I will put links in this post with where to register, early voting dates and information,” she concluded.
Swift later signed the post, “Childless cat lady.”
Swift's endorsement of Kamala came shortly after Tuesday night's presidential debate, and it remains to be seen how the polls will move in the coming days, but ahead of the debate, recent polls have suggested that while the two candidates are neck and neck nationally, the momentum is currently in Trump's favor.
“In a poll conducted from September 3 to 5, Published Of the 1,413 registered voters surveyed Tuesday, 48% supported Trump and 49% supported Harris. “1% are undecided and 1% support a third-party candidate,” the poll noted.
Other polls conducted before the debate also showed voters trusted former President Trump on foreign policy.
“Cato Institute Consignment “YouGov will survey 1,500 Americans in three key battleground states: Michigan, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin,” the report noted. “Most notable is the poll's finding that voters in each state trust Trump by 4 percentage points more than Harris on handling foreign policy.”
It remains to be seen how Tuesday night's debate will affect the poll numbers in either direction.
Taylor Swift has remained largely out of politics during this election cycle and did not attend the Democratic National Convention (DNC) as some had expected.
