Zach Wilson's biggest fan commemorates the Jets' big win.
Shortly after the Jets' upset win over the Texans on Sunday, Wilson's return as starting quarterback, his girlfriend, Nicolette Delano, posted a message of support on her Instagram Story.
“Always proud of you 2,” Delano wrote alongside a snapshot from MetLife Stadium as green fireworks went off in the distance.
In his first game back since Nov. 19, Wilson completed 27 of 36 passes for 301 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-6 win.
It was the Jets' fifth win of the season, snapping a five-game losing streak.
It's been quite a week for the 24-year-old Wilson, who was reportedly reluctant to resume a starting role after being benched to replace Tim Boyle in late November.
Boyle, 29, was named the starter for the Jets' Black Friday game on Nov. 24 (a 34-13 loss to the Dolphins), but was replaced by Trevor Siemian in last week's 13-8 loss to the Falcons. He served as
Before officially returning as the Jets' starter on Wednesday, head coach Robert Saleh said Monday that Wilson was eager to return to work.
“Young people want the ball,” Saleh said. “He wants to start. He believes he's the best quarterback in this room, the best quarterback for this team, the guy who's going to give us a chance to win. I'll say the same thing I said to him: I'm grateful he wants to play, but I'm just not there yet.”
Coach Saleh praised Wilson's second-half performance in Sunday's post-match press conference.
“In the second half, I thought Zach probably played the best game of his career.” saleh said. “…timing and rhythm, getting the ball where it needs to go and being aggressive and smart at the same time.
“…He was having a good time outside.”
Wilson said earlier this week that he would take a different approach heading into Sunday's game.
“I'll have more fun,” he said.
Wilson and the Jets are scheduled to visit the Dolphins next Sunday.
It remains to be seen whether Mr. Delano will join the expedition.
She and Wilson have been dating since the summer of 2022.
