Russian President Putin has turned down the ceasefire request and instead suggested that talks with Ukraine should continue in person.
Kyiv:
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed his satisfaction that Russia is, at last, considering steps to end the conflict. However, he insists a ceasefire is necessary before any peace discussions can start.
He referred to this situation as a “positive sign,” emphasizing, “The entire world has been waiting for this for a long time, and the first step to truly ending the war is a ceasefire.”
Despite this, President Putin essentially dismissed the ceasefire idea in his recent media comments and proposed that the two sides meet again in Istanbul on May 15th.
