Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is scheduled to meet with President Biden in Washington, D.C., next week, according to multiple reports.
Zelenskiy is scheduled to attend the United Nations General Assembly in New York City next Wednesday for the group’s annual gathering. After he traveled to New York, multiple news organization report Mr. Zelensky plans to travel to Washington, D.C., and meet with Mr. Biden and members of Congress at the Capitol, according to a person familiar with Mr. Zelensky’s plans.
The Washington Post reported Zelensky’s visit to Washington, D.C., is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, September 21st. The Hill has reached out to the White House for comment.
He previously visited the nation’s capital in December, where he met with Biden and addressed a joint session of Congress. Since then, support for continuing aid to Ukraine has waned among some Republicans as the White House continues to pledge aid to the country.
Zelensky’s reported visit follows Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s visit to Kiev last week, where he announced that the United States would provide an additional $1 billion in aid to Ukraine to protect the country from Russian aggression. It was conducted. The aid will include air support and other resources, he said, to “build a military for the future, a future military force that can deter future aggression and, if necessary, defend and defeat it.” ” he said.
