Ukrainian President Discusses Relationship with Trump
In an exclusive interview with Fox News anchor Brett Baier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky shared insights into his evolving relationship with former President Donald Trump amid the ongoing conflict with Russia.
When asked whether his rapport with Trump had improved, Zelensky responded, “I think we have a better relationship than before.” He noted the regular communication, including calls and meetings, emphasizing that misinformation from Russian President Vladimir Putin had complicated matters in the past.
Zelensky pointed out that the intelligence shared between Ukraine and the U.S. is now more synchronized. During the interview, Baier referenced Trump’s optimistic statements about Ukraine possibly reclaiming all its territory with support from Europe and NATO, which surprised Zelensky yet offered encouragement.
“President Trump seems more positive about the situation and is committed to supporting Ukraine until the end,” he remarked. Zelensky indicated that Trump recognizes the necessity for more stringent actions against Russia, including further sanctions on its energy sector and banking system.
Reflecting on Trump’s stance regarding territorial concessions, Zelensky said, “I think he understands today that we cannot exchange territory. That’s not fair.” This interview marks a pivotal moment, as Zelensky expressed belief in the Trump administration’s commitment to Ukraine’s defense.
Although Zelensky noted that negotiations with Russia are fraught, he insisted that Ukraine is ready for peace but is mindful of needing a strong position to effectively advocate for its interests.
As the conversation unfolded, the dynamics between the leaders were further illuminated, conveying a sense of cautious optimism despite the overarching complexities of the war.
The White House did not provide immediate feedback regarding Zelensky’s comments.
