Zelenskyy wishes Trump well on his 80th birthday before G7 Summit discussions

Zelenskyy and Trump Discuss Key Issues Ahead of G7 Summit

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently spoke with former President Donald Trump on the eve of the G7 summit, a conversation he shared on Sunday.

“I had a great chat with the President,” Zelenskyy posted on social media. “I wished him a happy birthday and we delved into many important matters, especially peace initiatives. I expressed my hopes for his success, particularly in efforts to conclude Russia’s war against Ukraine.”

He further expressed gratitude for the support the U.S. has extended to Ukraine, mentioning, “It’s crucial to appreciate every bit of that backing, from Javelin missiles to Patriot systems. We talked about steps we can take now to promote peace and I updated him on the current battlefield situation and how we’re reinforcing our stance.”

Zelenskyy Reflects on Recent Discussions with Trump

As the G7 summit approaches, which will gather leaders from seven major developed nations including Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the U.S., Zelenskyy noted, “We plan to continue our discussions at the summit. You have some solid ideas to further peace and save lives. Thank you!”

This conversation comes as Trump, who is 80, prepares for his trip to France for the G7 meeting, where the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia is anticipated to take center stage. A senior administration official mentioned that Trump will have a working session with Zelenskyy on Tuesday morning, though it may not be a formal bilateral meeting.

Amidst this backdrop, European leaders aim to ensure Trump maintains his stance on Ukraine and encourage renewed diplomatic efforts involving Ukraine, Russia, and Europe. They are expected to press for advancements in negotiations with Russia while also emphasizing increased pressure on the country.

Additionally, Trump has expressed a desire to broker a peace deal with Iran before the G7. He hopes that his global peace initiatives could ultimately “end the bloodshed” in various regions of Ukraine, where President Vladimir Putin asserts control over extensive territories due to the ongoing war.
