Zoe Saldaña discusses parenting her three sons: 'Boys are sensitive beings'

Zoe Saldaña Reflects on Raising Her Sons in a Challenging World

Zoe Saldaña recently opened up about the complexities of raising her three sons in a world filled with misogyny, describing it as quite challenging. “There’s so much noise in the world, and that noise is so pervasive and so persuasive,” she shared during the 2026 Time 100 Gala, where she spoke to Page Six exclusively.

The “Avatar” star, who is a mother to 11-year-old twins, Rhino and Bowie, along with nine-year-old Zen, expressed her concerns about keeping their hearts kind and soft amid all the chaos. She mentioned that although their minds are resilient, it’s an ongoing struggle.

Saldaña emphasized an additional layer to her parenting—navigating the experience of raising sons who are men of color. As a Dominican-Puerto Rican actress married to Italian artist Marco Perego, she is acutely aware of the hurdles they might face. Yet, she proudly cherishes their diverse heritage, hoping her sons ultimately grow up to be well-rounded individuals.

Recently, Saldaña was also recognized as one of Time Magazine’s 2026 Most Influential People. In an essay, she was described as a “phenomenon,” revered for her compassion, loyalty, and fierce protectiveness as a mother, wife, and friend. This portrayal highlights not only her professional achievements but also her deep commitment to her loved ones.
