Mamdani’s Swearing-In: Emphasis on Collectivism

The swearing-in ceremony for Mayor Zoran Mamdani took place as anticipated. The young leader celebrated what he described as the “warmth of collectivism” while criticizing the “coldness of rugged individualism.”

During a segment on “Stu Does America,” host Stu Bruguiere discussed the mayor’s initial remarks, questioning what his election really meant for the city. Mamdani made his vision clear in his inaugural speech, emphasizing community unity and the importance of working together.

“We will bring this city closer together. We will replace the ruthlessness of individualism with the warmth of collectivism,” Mamdani declared, adding that no matter our differences in culture or background, we all share the identity of being New Yorkers.

Stu, however, expressed skepticism about this approach. He suggested that dismissing the “brutal individualism” that shaped America, viewed by Mamdani as a “cold, awful experience,” might overlook history. He further emphasized that the so-called “warmth of collectivism” is not a veiled notion; rather, it’s a blatant call to what he considers Marxist principles.

He pointed out that this concept has a dark legacy, referencing “The Black Book of Communism,” which details the severe ramifications of communism over the past century. “We’re talking about millions of lives lost due to these ideologies,” he said, highlighting the potential dangers of embracing such philosophies. In a somewhat incredulous tone, he remarked that some in New York seem ready to experiment with these ideas again.
