Mamdani Targets Cuomo in New Campaign Ad
Democratic mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani is stepping up his campaign by directly challenging former governor Andrew Cuomo in a new ad. The ad aims to connect Cuomo to Jeffrey Epstein, utilizing a dramatic, TikTok-style format that aims to capture attention quickly.
In the short video, Mamdani looks directly at the camera, urging Cuomo to disclose a list of clients from his consulting firm. He references a June report by the New York Times revealing Cuomo’s partnership with a friend on a high-profile marina project in Puerto Rico—a project previously linked to Epstein.
The ad also lists various controversies surrounding Cuomo, including allegations of sexual misconduct and issues related to his handling of nursing homes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Mamdani critiques Cuomo’s past actions, stating he “resigned in disgrace” and suggests he knows the reasons behind his resignation.
Adding fuel to the fire, Mamdani requests that Cuomo leave his position and publish the client list from Innovative Strategies LLC, which Cuomo established in 2022. Despite reports of Cuomo’s advisory role with a cryptocurrency exchange, Mamdani points out that there’s been little transparency about who has compensated Cuomo for his consulting services.
Cuomo’s camp has responded robustly, accusing Mamdani of desperation and labeling him as a “conspiracy peddler.” Richard Azzopardi, a spokesman for Cuomo, claimed that the former governor has no ties to Epstein and dismissed Mamdani’s claims as mere theatrics.
As tensions rise in the Democratic primary, some analysts express mixed reactions to Mamdani’s aggressive approach. While it could strengthen his position among voters, there are concerns it might backfire, damaging his own reputation in the process.
Azzopardi further reiterated that previous disclosures about Cuomo’s stock options were properly filed and questioned Mamdani’s motives, suggesting he’s trying to mislead the electorate.
Mamdani’s campaign may be a bold strategy to redefine Cuomo’s public image, but it remains to be seen how it will resonate with voters moving forward.
