Republicans Highlight NYC Mayor-Elect’s Policies in New Ad Campaign

Zoran Mamdani, the newly elected socialist mayor of New York City, has been labeled the “new face” of the Democratic Party. The House Republican Party’s campaign arm issued a warning to voters on Wednesday about his “radical left” policies possibly spreading to battleground districts across the country.

A new advertisement targeting at-risk Congressional Democrats ahead of the upcoming 2026 midterms claims that the “radical left earthquake” that resulted in Mamdani’s victory has caused a significant shift within the Democratic Party towards socialism.

“This is the future that House Democrats want. Your city could be next,” the ad’s narrator warns, featuring House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries alongside Mamdani’s image.

Jeffries (D-N.Y.) offered a reluctant endorsement of Mamdani last week, months after the Socialist Party’s surprising win in New York City’s Democratic mayoral primary.

The ad emphasizes Mamdani’s previous support for reducing the funding of the New York City Police Department (NYPD) and calls for social workers to handle mental health crises and domestic conflicts instead of police officers.

“He built a movement by defunding the police and abolishing ICE,” the narrator states.

“Now the socialists are celebrating their so-called progress. But we call it chaos.”

The digital campaign will run in 49 key districts, urging voters to reject socialism and Democrats in favor of Republican candidates.

“Vulnerable Democrats can’t escape from Zoran Mamdani,” NRCC spokesman Mike Marinella commented, insisting these Democrats will have to justify their association with Mamdani’s policies to their constituents.

Despite endorsing Mamdani at the last moment, Jeffries dismissed the notion that he represents the future of the Democratic Party.

“No, we believe the future of our party will not be defined by him,” Jeffries noted in a CNN interview, while commending Mamdani’s efforts to tackle the affordability crisis. He did, however, acknowledge that there would be points of agreement and disagreement in their principles.

The NRCC intends to distribute these ads in 29 Democrat-held House districts, including those of New York Representatives Tom Suozzi and Laura Gillen, as well as 20 Republican districts.

For Democrats, winning just three additional seats in the midterms would restore their majority in the House.
