Zoran Mamdani held a private meeting with Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren on Wednesday, noticed by an observant New Yorker working nearby. The meeting took place across from Mamdani’s campaign headquarters.
Warren later highlighted her gathering with Lina Khan, who co-chairs Mamdani’s transition team and openly critiques Big Tech. She shared a photo of the three of them, adding a caption that said, “Tax the rich. Billionaires don’t cry.”
A neighbor, who works in a building across the street, captured an image of Mamdani and Warren engaged in an intense conversation on November 12, as noted on social media. A follow-up post suggested that blinds were drawn the following day.
Mamdani’s neighbor commented, “All the blinds are closed this morning,” hinting at the private nature of the discussions.
Details from the meeting remain unclear, and attempts to get comments from Mamdani and Warren have not yet produced results.
Warren, known for her critical stance on Wall Street, had previously criticized Mamdani’s firm emphasis on affordability, positing that his dreamy proposals for free childcare and rent freezes represented a true “Democratic message.”
Maria D’Anzillo, a former candidate for the New York State Senate, expressed concern over progressives’ keen interest in New York City’s upcoming mayoral race. She elaborated that leaders like Warren seem intent on altering the city, lamenting past leadership that contributed to its struggles.
Some onlookers voiced dissatisfaction with the approach of left-wing politicians gaining traction with Mamdani. Comments ranged from doubts about the practicality of Warren’s policies in New York to questions about her presence in the city as a state senator from Massachusetts.
