Zoran Mamdani’s debut isn’t off to the smoothest start.
The mayor-elect’s team ended up misspelling the names of several individuals on his transition team, which includes some rather contentious figures.
One of these is rapper Misonne Linen, whose first name was incorrectly listed as “Misonne” when his appointment to the Criminal Justice System Commission was made public last month. Linen, a former convict, spent seven years in state prison.
Additionally, Black supremacist Lumumba Bandele had his first name omitted in a November 24 press release announcing his position on Mamdani’s “Community Organizing Committee.”
And apparently, these errors didn’t stop there, as a review by the Post pointed out further typos.
Sarita Dafferty from the Freedom Agenda was listed with her last name misspelled as “Dafferty” in the same release that appointed her to a 20-member committee alongside Linen.
Furthermore, the announcement mentioned Mary Travis Bassett, a prominent Harvard professor, as “Bassett” in a transitional health committee.
Other name errors included Justin Oldman from the Bronx Defenders, who had an unnecessary “n” at the end of his name in the “Community Safety Committee.” Anne-Marie Scalia from the Social Services Committee was identified as Anne-Maria, and Mary Vaccaro on the Youth and Education Committee had an “r” mistakenly added to her last name.
Even the name on the migration website was misspelled until it was corrected recently.
Bandele’s and Linen’s appointments have faced significant backlash from critics.
Linen, age 49, was convicted in 1999 for robbing taxi drivers in New York City, serving time while anticipating his initial album release on Def Jam Records.
Bandele, previously involved with the Malcolm X organization, was known for a past conviction and lived in Cuba, where he sought asylum until his death last September.
No representatives from Mamdani’s camp had comments available on Monday.
