Caitlin Clark nearly recorded a triple-double as No. 1 seed Iowa defeated No. 16 Holy Cross in the round of 64 in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

Clark, who scored 27 points in front of his home crowd in Iowa City, made a bold statement after the 91-65 victory. She felt that her fans were more excited about the women’s competition than the men’s competition.

“There were a lot of little moments, I think just the crowd at the game, but also people shouting and asking for autographs,” she said. “I think it’s something that really never gets old, like people screaming my name constantly, and it’s something that I never take for granted.”

Clark emphasized her statement by saying that when she started her freshman season, the women’s tournament wasn’t even allowed to be called March Madness, meaning it was limited to men only.
