USWNT’s Korbin Albert booed after controversial social media posts

U.S. women’s national soccer team star Corbin Albert was booed during Saturday’s SheBelieves Cup win over Japan.

Albert came on in the 78th minute of the match at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. When the Penn State announcer mentioned Albert’s name, boos could be heard inside the Atlanta Falcons’ stadium.

She entered the game after Lindsey Horan’s penalty kick gave the USA a 2-1 lead. With that score, the United States won the game.

The apparent hostility towards Albert came after she sparked backlash with social media posts about the LGBTQ+ community. According to a reporter for The Athletic, a TikTok video she reposted included a sermon that she is gay and that “feeling trans” is wrong.

According to the report, another screenshot released reads, “God took time off to perform a miracle to ensure that Megan Rapinoe sprained her ankle in the final game of her life.” Albert was reportedly seen “liking” an Instagram post mocking Megan Rapinoe’s injury, which was accompanied by a caption.

Rapinoe criticized Albert’s post.

“For those of you who want to hide behind what you believe in, I have one question for you: You make all kinds of spaces look safer, more inclusive, more whole, better. , do you bring out the best in someone?” Rapinoe wrote in a post she shared on Instagram.

“Because if you believe in his hatred, you’re not alone,” Rapinoe continued. “And kids are literally killing themselves because of this hate. Wake up, TF, wake up!”

Rapinoe signed a message saying, “No. 15, it really is you,” the number Albert currently wears.

Shortly after Rapinoe shared the post, Albert posted an apology.

“I sincerely apologize for my actions on social media. Likes and sharing posts that are offensive, insensitive, and harmful are immature, disrespectful, and not what I intended.” There was no,” her statement said.

“I am truly disappointed in myself and am deeply sorry for the hurt I caused to my teammates, other players, fans, friends and anyone I offended.

“I truly believe that everyone should feel safe and respected everywhere, in every arena,” she continued. “I know my actions were not worthy of it and I sincerely apologize. It is an honor and privilege to play this sport on the world stage and I am committed to doing better.” .”

Rapinoe recently slammed people who mock her injuries, saying during a podcast appearance last month that there is a “special place in hell” for people who celebrate them.

Albert, 20, plays at club level in France for Paris Saint-Germain. She has appeared in seven games for the United States, and she was a starter in this year’s Concacaf Women’s Gold Cup.
