More than 1.5 million homes in Texas were without power Monday morning as Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the central Texas coast. The eye of Hurricane Beryl crossed the Texas coastline near Matagorda early Monday morning.
Power Out Reports More than 1.5 million Texas customers are without power, primarily due to the effects of Hurricane Beryl, with outages stretching from the central Texas coast into Houston and into East Texas.
Energy industry meteorologist Matt Lanza posted on social media that more than 750,000 Texas homes were without power in CenterPoint Energy’s service area alone (the Houston metropolitan area), with thousands more without power in counties from the central coast to East Texas.
Another 250,000 cases were added in the last 15 minutes, and we’re now at 750,000.

Texas Emergency Management officials warned that the rain bands would cause flooding in many parts of the state.

Just before sunrise, Hurricane Beryl made landfall near Matagorda, Texas. The storm brought winds of up to 80 mph and life-threatening storm surge to coastal areas, according to an update from the National Weather Service.

Along the Texas coast, storm tracker Reed Timmer posted a video showing the storm surge in Sargent Beach, where forecasters predicted the storm surge could reach up to six feet.

Hurricane-force winds reached Galveston before sunrise, with video from Weather Channel forecaster Molly McCollum showing the gale-force winds battering communities along the coast.

Beryl is expected to move slowly, skirting the west side of Houston and moving northeast into East Texas, where it is expected to cause flash flooding and widespread power outages along the storm’s path.
