In 2025, authorities seized a record £1 million worth of cocaine, prompting President Donald Trump’s intensified campaign against drug trafficking cartels.
“A multi-agency task force based in Florida reported the seizure of £1 million in cocaine during the 2025 fiscal year, which amounts to 378 million doses, enough to potentially kill every American,” Fox News highlighted on Monday.
The report continued:
This operation was revealed by the Joint Interagency Task Force – South (JIATF-S), which operates under US SouthCom. This unit collaborates with partner nations to disrupt illegal drug distribution routes through “transport zones” that connect South America, Central America, and the Caribbean, aiming to weaken cross-border criminal networks.
…
According to JIATF-S, efforts have successfully prevented cartels from earning $11.34 billion and removed 377.9 million lethal doses from circulation.
In May, the US Coast Guard offloaded around 28,500 pounds of cocaine at Port Everglades; a massive operation, as seen in a tweet.
Interestingly, Gustavo Petro, Colombia’s left-wing president, and Nicolás Maduro, the ruler of Venezuela, have criticized the US for its aggressive drug enforcement strategies, as reported by Breitbart News.
As noted in a Fox article, “Maduro accused US authorities of being behind the Sands cartel.”
These accusations came after US forces reportedly intercepted a second drug trafficking vessel near Venezuela in Caribbean waters, per Breitbart.
“The action against this ship occurred shortly after US forces dealt with another Venezuelan boat linked to drug trafficking, leading to the death of 11 members of the Tren de Lagua. This is part of a broader effort to tackle Latin American drug cartels operating in international waters, which helps reduce the flow of drugs into the US,” the report mentioned.
Recently, Trump highlighted Afghanistan, India, China, and 20 other nations as significant points in the illegal drug trade during remarks made on September 18.
