The baby was placed on a ventilator as the injury deprived the brain of oxygen, causing swelling. According to WPXI, the baby is on a feeding tube and is in a medically induced coma.

Washington County District Attorney Jason Walsh said Henderson's original assault charge has been upgraded to attempted murder, adding that his office “will always seek justice for the victim.”

“Children are innocent and our most vulnerable, and I will vigorously prosecute offenders who commit crimes against them to the fullest extent of the law,” Walsh said. said.

According to local media reports, Henderson told law enforcement officers during his arrest that Kibrel spun him around and placed him on top of the furniture, then he fell off the couch and onto the floor. Henderson told authorities the child appeared safe and happy at the time.

However, the infant's doctor stated that the infant's brain damage was “100% without a doubt the result of child abuse,” according to the complaint.

The child's paternal grandmother, Carla Darrell, told WPXI that her grandson was “using all kinds of machines.” Darrell added that she or her son, the boy's father, would have been happy to babysit if they knew the child would need to be supervised.

“He was beaten like a man. A man beat my grandson,” she claimed.
