10 Democrats vote to censure Biden officials over Afghanistan withdrawal

The House of Representatives on Wednesday passed a bill rebuking several Biden administration officials over the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal. Ten of the lawmakers who voted in favor were Democrats.

Among those slammed in the bill are President Biden, Vice President Harris, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin. The vote on the bill was split along party lines, with 10 Democrats joining Republicans in voting to pass the bill in a 219-194 vote. Eight Democrats reported not voting.

The members are Rep. Yadira Carabeo (CO), Rep. Henry Cuellar (TX), Rep. Don Davis (NC), Rep. Jared Golden (ME), Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (TX), Rep. Jeff Jackson (NC), Rep. Greg Landsman (OH), Rep. Susie Lee (NV), Rep. Mary Peltola (Alaska), and Rep. Marie Grusenkamp Perez (Wash., Democrat).

The Post has reached out to the State Department, the Pentagon, Vice President Harris' office and the White House for comment.

The chaotic withdrawal caused many Afghans, including senior civilians, to flee the country in search of safety, and Kabul fell back into Taliban hands.

President Biden and the White House have repeatedly said they have no regrets about the withdrawal plan, which saw 13 service members die at the airport while trying to help them leave the country.
