10 NFL Teams So Far Refuse LGBTQ Pride Month Messaging

As many as 10 professional NFL teams have refused to offer any messaging in honor of LGBTQ Pride Month in June.

Just 22 of the NFL’s 32 professional teams celebrated Pride Month on social media over the weekend as June began, with a combined total of 42 million followers. Fox News:

For example, the Washington Commanders said Pride Month is actually about love.

Commanders, Buffalo Bills, The Philadelphia Eagles changed the colors of their logo to match the Pride flag.

Not only did the Vikings post a supportive tweet and change their logo, they also changed the banner on their X account – they seem super excited about Pride Month.

The NFL’s main account did not directly post any messages about LGBTQ Pride Month, but did repost messages from the Chicago Bears and Jacksonville Jaguars. At the time of writing, the 10 teams that have declined to post messages about Pride Month are:

  1. Pittsburgh Steelers
  2. Cleveland Browns
  3. Cincinnati Bengals
  4. Tennessee Titans
  5. Kansas City Chiefs
  6. Denver Broncos
  7. Dallas Cowboys
  8. Green Bay Packers
  9. New Orleans Saints
  10. Atlanta Falcons

Last year, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced that teams would not wear rainbow LGBTQ-themed jerseys during pregame warmups on Pride Night. That same year, NHL Pride Night made headlines when Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Ivan Provorov refused to participate in the team’s Pride Night due to his Orthodox Christian beliefs, sparking accusations of bigotry and homophobia. However, the Philadelphia Flyers kept him in the lineup and the team won the game against the Anaheim Ducks.

“I respect everyone and I respect everyone’s choice,” he said after the match. “My choice is to stay true to myself and my religion and that’s all I have to say.”

Then, San Jose Sharks goaltender James Reimer chose not to wear his Pride-themed warm-up jersey in a recent game, citing his Christian faith.
