12 Palestinian Kids in Gaza Suffering from Hunger Also Had Other Illnesses

Reports highlighting 12 Palestinian children as victims of hunger amidst Israel’s conflict with Hamas have revealed that these children were actually dealing with various other health issues.

This finding comes from an investigation conducted by Free Press journalists Olivia Raingold and Tanya Lucanova, as cited by the BBC.

Their research indicates that “the images of these children lack crucial context, as they are suffering from conditions like cystic fibrosis, rickets, or other serious medical ailments.”

A notable instance pointed out by Breitbart News features a widely circulated photo of a boy affected by muscle disorders. Although the report was later updated, the initial images had already made a significant impression.

(Israel contesting similar coverage) was noted as refusing similar arrangements that would have featured images of Israeli hostages experiencing actual starvation.

Free Press has reported:

An investigation by Free Press also mentioned that many other viral images portraying starvation in Gaza lack essential context. The subjects depicted face severe health challenges. These images have circulated across social media, reports from major global aid organizations, and prominent news agencies in the U.S. such as CNN and NPR, often without detailing the complex medical histories that explain their appearances.

It’s important to acknowledge that hunger does exist in Gaza. There have been reports from the World Health Organization of malnutrition leading to several deaths, including children. Some of these individuals might have suffered health issues irrespective of the ongoing conflict. In 2022, around 50 young people in Gaza under age 20 fell victim to malnutrition. This data comes from the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Jannai Spitzer, an economist in Jerusalem, has monitored food prices in Gaza lately and observed a general decline in hunger following the resumption of aid deliveries after an extended period of restriction. However, prices for essentials skyrocketed by 4,000% in mid-July according to data from the Gaza Chamber of Commerce and the World Food Program.

Additionally, Avimeyer from the New Jerusalem Journal highlighted another significant issue in the media. It’s claimed that some individuals identified as journalists in Gaza were, in fact, involved in terrorist activities amidst the chorus of global criticism.

Mayer stated:

Throughout the conflict, many identified as Gaza journalists not only failed to intervene during imminent threats but actively took part in perpetuating and amplifying those threats.

While journalists should absolutely be protected and criticisms of Israeli actions during the war have often pointed out inadequacies, it’s problematic to equate the rights of those engaged in hostilities with those of real journalists. This undermines the integrity of both their profession and the safety of those they aim to represent.

Many in the Western media seem hesitant to clarify the degree to which images, videos, and reports from Gaza are influenced by Hamas approval or the extent to which actual terrorists produce propaganda.
