California State Police announced that a 35-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexual assault A 12-year-old girl who snuck into her home from the balcony and came out the front door five hours later was in her bedroom.
Culver City police officers said they were called to a home in Culver City's Blair Hills neighborhood in the early morning hours of Dec. 2.
The girl woke up her parents and told them to call the police around 7:45 a.m.
The girl's mother, Alexis, detailed what her daughter told her.
“I'm thinking, 'Mom, I need to call the police.' Am I hearing the right voice? Am I hearing the right voice? So by the third time, she's very outspoken. '' she said. “'Call the police, Mom.' That's what we did.”
According to investigators, the intruder entered the home between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. through a sliding glass door on the balcony.
Alexis said the suspect sexually assaulted the girl and then left out the front door several hours later. She waited until the girl felt safe and then headed to her parents.
Police were able to obtain an image of the suspect from surveillance video and asked for the public's help in identifying the man.
Weeks later, investigators announced they had identified the suspect through DNA evidence collected at the crime scene. The suspect, Marcos Maldonado, was living in a hotel in downtown Los Angeles when he boarded a bus to go to Bakersfield. They arrested him in the Santa Clarita area after stopping the bus.
Maldonado was arrested on suspicion of aggravated sexual assault of a child and held on $1.25 million bail.
Police said there is no evidence the suspect knew the victim.
“While there are no reports of new crimes of this type in the Culver City area, we are working with other law enforcement agencies to identify additional victims,” a Culver City Police Department press release said. it is written like this.
