School Shooting Injures 12-Year-Old Girl in Minneapolis
A 12-year-old girl was critically injured after being shot in the head during a school shooting in Minneapolis. According to doctors, she was “on the brink of death” following the incident.
Sophia Forchas, a seventh grader at Annunciation Catholic School, was shot on August 27 when a gunman opened fire during a morning mass. The attack resulted in the deaths of two children and left 18 others injured. A bullet became lodged in the right occipital lobe of her brain. The surgeon indicated that they could remove part of her skull to relieve pressure on her brain.
Neurosurgeon Dr. Walt Galicic spoke at a news conference on September 6, suggesting that it would have taken a miracle for her to recover, given the severity of her condition.
On Monday, Sofia’s family released a statement through Hennepin Healthcare, describing her recovery as “miraculous.” They expressed their gratitude for the support they’ve received.
The family stated, “Your prayers were powerful. Sophia, who survived this terrible attack, is a miracle. Her healing progress is nothing but a miracle.”
They noted that Sofia is showing steady progress and is exhibiting promising signs of neurological recovery. Strikingly, her mother, a healthcare assistant, arrived at work after the shooting and helped treat victims without realizing her daughter was among them.
“Sophia is kind, wonderful, full of life, and an innocent child attacked while praying,” her father, Tom Forsus, stated. A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to help cover medical expenses, which have surpassed $1 million. Meanwhile, Sofia’s nine-year-old brother witnessed the shooting but was not physically harmed.
The tragic shooting also claimed the lives of 8-year-old Fletcher Merkel and 10-year-old Harper Moysky.
