Teen Accused of Pushing Man Off Train in Chicago

A 15-year-old girl has been implicated in the death of a 29-year-old man after allegedly pushing him from a moving train in Chicago following a confrontation. However, she is not the only suspect in this tragic incident.

According to WBBM-TV, the girl appeared in court recently facing charges of murder. The victim’s family has expressed their frustration, insisting that the other individuals involved, or their guardians, should come forward.

A family member stated, “Fix the trains. Whatever’s happening with the trains, it shouldn’t have been that easy.”

Chicago police reported that the girl was taken into custody four days after the incident, during which she is alleged to have pushed Kyle Bickham off the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red Line train.

She faces several serious charges, including first-degree murder, mob action, murder by another forcible felony, and aggravated battery against a transit employee. During her appearance in court, a judge ruled that the girl should remain incarcerated, citing probable cause for all counts. She is scheduled for another hearing in October.

Authorities stated that she was part of a group of three individuals who used force to push Bickham from the moving train on the Dan Ryan Expressway. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. last Monday, leading to Bickham’s death near 69th Street. As of now, no additional arrests have been made.

Bickham’s brother, Christopher Bickham Jr., emotionally asked those responsible to turn themselves in, saying, “Y’all took a part of me that I can’t get back. I forgive y’all already.”

At the time of the attack, Bickham was reportedly returning home from work, with police indicating that a fight preceded the moment he was pushed off.

It’s reported that Bickham fell onto the third rail and was subsequently struck by another train.

“I wish this pain on no one. No one else. I wish that no one else has to go through this,” Bickham’s father, Christopher Bickham Sr., said, echoing similar sentiments about the state of safety on public transport.

Violence involving the CTA is unfortunately not a novel issue:

  • In April, a group of seven females and two males violently attacked a solo passenger on a train.
  • In January, a male was recorded fatally stabbing a sleeping man on a train in an unprovoked confrontation.
  • In July 2024, an 11-year-old girl was arrested after a group assaulted a 63-year-old man on a train.
  • In January 2023, an armed robbery attempt on a train was thwarted when the intended victim, a concealed carrier, shot the robber.
  • In July 2022, six armed robbers attacked a train passenger, but the victim fought back, resulting in the hospitalization of three suspects.
  • Days after the July 2022 incident, another robbery victim killed a 15-year-old assailant who had pointed a gun at him on a train.
