Incident at Wilmington Beauty Salon
A 15-year-old girl has been charged with stabbing two individuals at a beauty salon in Wilmington earlier this month. Reports suggest that her actions stemmed from dissatisfaction with her braids.
Delaware State Police stated that officers arrived at Francia African Blaze, located on North Market Street, around 4:30 p.m. on June 7 after receiving a call about a stabbing.
During the incident, it’s alleged that the girl threw objects in the store before grabbing scissors and going into the bathroom. Moments later, she emerged and confronted a stylist, allegedly wielding the scissors and threatening her.
Following a dispute, the girl reportedly assaulted and stabbed the hairdresser multiple times. An intervening bystander attempted to help but was also stabbed in the process. Thankfully, both victims were taken to a nearby hospital but sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Authorities found the girl outside the salon and detained her without resistance. She was taken into custody and charged with:
- Second-degree assault (a felony).
- Aggravated menacing (a felony).
- Third-degree assault.
- Disorderly conduct.
After her arraignment by an 11th Circuit Judge, she was placed under the care of the Department of Children, Youth and Family Services, with a secured bond set at $10,100.
Comments on the state police’s Facebook post about the incident reflected public outrage regarding the girl’s behavior and the circumstances leading to it. One user questioned whether it might have been self-defense, while another remarked on the parenting involved. A third commenter suggested banning knives and scissors altogether.
