16-year-old girl shot in the head and killed outside a charter school in NYC

Authorities report that a 16-year-old girl was tragically shot in the head and killed outside a Bronx charter school on Tuesday evening.

The incident involved a confrontation between two groups, where a shooter, believed to be another teenager, fired at her. The girl was simply an innocent bystander near Dr. Richard Izquierdo Health & Science Charter School.

One of her friends attempted to shield her during the chaos of the shooting, but, unfortunately, they couldn’t save her life.

Emergency responders transported her to Lincoln Hospital, but she was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The shooting took place at the intersection of Home Avenue and Tinton Avenue, right outside the charter school serving grades 6 through 12.

This tragic incident marks the first murder in District 42 this year. Despite a notable decrease in violent crime in the Bronx—murders down nearly 30% and shootings also dropping by 30%—this event has struck a somber note.

Police collected three shell casings from the scene and the investigation is still ongoing.

As of Monday evening, no arrests have been made, and the shooters remain at large.
