Teen Killed in Tesla Crash in Malibu
Authorities reported that a 16-year-old high school student lost his life when his Tesla plummeted 30 feet down a hillside in Malibu.
The victim, Hunter Langley, was a student at Sierra Canyon School. The tragic incident occurred around 7:40 a.m. on Wednesday. According to police, Langley’s 2018 Tesla Model S abruptly veered onto Malibu Canyon Road and went off the highway into the ravine.
The California Highway Patrol noted that “the vehicle became airborne and crashed head-on into a dirt ravine along the mountainside east of Malibu Canyon Road.”
Rescue teams reached the wrecked car but, unfortunately, Langley was pronounced dead at the scene due to a traumatic brain injury, as reported by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
In response to this tragedy, Sierra Canyon School, which has a yearly tuition of $48,600 for high school students, canceled all athletic events and provided counseling for students. The principal, Jim Scrambis, emphasized the difficulty of such a loss for young people in a letter to school officials.
“The loss of a young life can be especially difficult for youth,” he stated.
Classmate Sean Parow expressed the impact of Langley’s death, calling it “devastating.” Parow shared, “He was a wonderful kid… I feel really bad for his parents, and of course my condolences go to them. He was always such a nice guy, and every time he walked into a room, he would turn on the lights.”
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
