Bronx Shooting Claims Life of 17-Year-Old

A 17-year-old was tragically shot and killed outside the Nicha Forest House in the Bronx on Thursday evening. Authorities believe the assailant may have fled on a city bike.

The young man sustained a gunshot wound to his waist while walking through the grounds of Trinity Avenue near East 165th Avenue in Longwood. He was subsequently transported to Harlem Hospital, where his condition was reported as stable.

Witnesses mentioned that the suspect likely headed south on Trinity Avenue right after the incident.

This violent episode occurred just a few hours after another shooting in the area. Two other 17-year-olds, both innocent bystanders, were shot at around 1:20 PM on East 176th Street and Anthony Avenue in Mount Hope.

  • One was hit in the right arm, while the other suffered a neck injury, as reported by law enforcement and sources.
  • Preliminary investigations suggest they were not the intended targets, caught in crossfire instead.

Both teens were taken to Columbia University Irving Medical Center and were also reported in stable condition. Notably, they have no known criminal backgrounds and appear to have been shot from a distance.

The mother of the recently injured boy, who is 37 and chose to remain unnamed, expressed her fright and relief, emphasizing her gratitude that her son returned home alive. “He’s working, no brain damage, he can walk, talk, and take care of himself,” she mentioned, feeling blessed despite the circumstances.

She added that neither her son nor his friend had any known enemies in the area, indicating that there was no altercation that could have led to the violence.

As a protective measure, the mother shared her intention to keep her son at home for the time being, stating, “He feels safe inside.”

This surge in youth-related violence has sparked concerns, especially following a revelation by NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch about rising incidents in the city. The commissioner has pointed to the state’s “raise-the-age” law as part of the ongoing discussions around this issue.
