Tragic Murder of Retired Couple in South Carolina

In a shocking turn of events, authorities in upstate South Carolina have apprehended 19-year-old Levi Kevin Jones, the grandson of a retired couple who were found murdered in their home earlier this month. He faces two murder charges linked to the case that has deeply affected the small rural community.

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reported that Jones was arrested late Friday and charged with the deaths of 76-year-old Larry Moore and 75-year-old Sandra Moore. The couple was discovered on January 15 at their residence on Cromer Moore Road, near Westminster, after family members requested a welfare check when they couldn’t reach them.

According to an arrest warrant, Jones is also charged with two counts of possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and he remains in custody as he awaits a bail hearing.

The couple had been long-time residents of the area and were well-known for their previous ownership of Moore & Moore Fish Camp, a local restaurant that operated for several decades before their retirement. Friends and church members described them as devoted attendees at Calvary Church, saying it was commonplace to see them at services.

It was earlier determined by investigators and the county coroner that Larry died from multiple stab wounds, while Sandra’s death was ruled a homicide due to manual strangulation. An autopsy, which took place the following day, revealed that a knife was used in the attack. Arrest warrants indicate that Jones stabbed his grandfather multiple times and strangled his grandmother, cutting off her airflow and blood circulation. As of now, authorities have not disclosed a motive for this tragic incident.

Community members are grappling with the impact of this violent act. Stacey Brooks, a churchgoer, expressed that it was hard for people in this tight-knit community to understand such an occurrence. “This is a close-knit community and things like this don’t happen often,” she remarked.
