Texas Man Sentenced for Role in Child Exploitation Cult

A Texas man, aged 19, has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term for his involvement in a disturbing online child sex extortion group, which has been described as “nihilist” by authorities. This was noted in a recent report from the Department of Justice.

This online network has been deemed a “nihilistic violent extremist” group, aiming to destabilize society by corrupting and exploiting vulnerable individuals, including children, through digital means.

Alexis Aldair Chavez, who operated under the usernames Zack and Zack8884, was part of the 8884 network, linked to the notorious 764 online cult.

In 2023, Chavez and his associates attempted to convince a minor girl to commit suicide via an overdose, recording the act to elevate their status within the group.

He also coerced a young victim into performing self-harm and sexual acts on camera. In a further horrifying incident, another victim was forced to carve the name “Zack” into his skin.

In December 2023, Chavez and others compelled a female victim to torture and kill a cat and inflict injury on herself while streaming over a video call.

Additionally, during a recorded video chat, another victim had his arm set on fire, resulting in severe burns. Another young woman was made to drink her own urine and attempted an overdose.

In January 2024, he made a minor perform various inappropriate acts.

Chavez was apprehended in October 2024 and later pleaded guilty in December 2025 to multiple counts, including the distribution and possession of child pornography, as well as extortion.

In July, he received a sentence of 40 years in prison, along with a $10,000 restitution fine and a lifetime of supervised release.

The Justice Department is committed to targeting NVE groups to prevent them from pushing vulnerable individuals into self-harm and other forms of exploitation.

Assistant Attorney General for National Security John A. Eisenberg commented that Chavez’s actions underscore the ruthless exploitation at the heart of such extremist networks, emphasizing that these organizations aim to spread terror and ultimately disrupt society.

He’s urged parents to actively monitor their children’s online activities and limit their access to harmful websites and applications.
