Authorities said Wednesday that a 19-year-old suspect with ISIS ties was arrested in Telnitz, south of Vienna, and a second suspect was arrested in Vienna.
Franz Ruff, head of the Austrian interior ministry’s public security department, said authorities were aware of “preparatory actions” against “possible attacks.”
Ruff also stressed that at least one of the suspects had mentioned a Taylor Swift concert as a viable option for planning an attack.
Ruff said the 19-year-old suspect had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State.
The second suspect is believed to be spreading extremist ideology online. Ruff said toxic chemicals had been seized from the residence and were being tested.
Swift will perform at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadium on Thursday, Friday and Saturday as part of her “Erasus Tour.”
Ruff said that concert safety measures will be stepped up, and that there will be extra emphasis on gate checks, so concertgoers should continue to remain vigilant while enjoying the show.
