The Skamania County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook post that deputies received a tip Wednesday about two men who did not return home after entering the Gifford Pinchot National Forest to search for Sasquatch. .

The sheriff's office began searching for the two men, ages 59 and 37, with the assistance of “more than 60 volunteer search and rescue personnel, including dogs, drones, and ground search teams.”
After a three-day search, two bodies were discovered. Police said they appeared to have died from unprepared exposure.
The sheriff's office praised the team for their efforts in finding the body.
“These incredible volunteers battled through subzero temperatures, snowfall, high water levels, heavy rain, landslides, and heavily wooded areas. Their exhaustive search efforts resulted in bringing families home to their loved ones. ” the statement reads.

Unfortunately, while volunteers risked their lives to search for the two men, a thief broke in They raided their storage yard and stole thousands of dollars worth of rescue equipment.
“It's disgusting to me that after spending Christmas out there looking for people and returning their loved ones, this happens to them. It's disgusting,” Skamania County Sheriff Summer Scheier said. “We never thought life-saving equipment like this would be targeted during search and rescue operations.”
To ensure that future rescue operations are not affected, donations are being sought from the public to repurchase the equipment.
Gifford Pinchot National Forest is approximately 240 miles northeast of Portland.
