The Texas Department of Public Safety on Sunday shared a heartbreaking video showing dozens of unaccompanied children who recently crossed the southern border into the United States.
Among the group of 60 children was a 2-year-old girl who told law enforcement officials she was traveling alone and hoped to reunite with her parents in the United States. videoThe child grabbed a piece of paper and handed it to the officers. The note had a name and phone number written on it.
“Regardless of political views, it is unacceptable for children to be exposed to dangerous criminal trafficking networks.”
The policeman asked the child, “Did you come alone?”
She nodded affirmatively.
“How old are you?” the officer asked.
The child held up several fingers and answered, “Two.”
When asked where he was going, he answered, “with my mom and dad,” and said he was in the United States.
This heartbreaking video, shared by Texas DPS Lt. Chris Olivarez, shows unaccompanied minors lined up near the southern border, presumably awaiting processing. He also posted two other clips of himself. As they progressed down the line, children shared their age, country of origin, and destination in the United States.
Olivares Posted A photo of several “immigrants of special interest” who appear to have arrived with a group of children.
He wrote to It included six special interest immigrants from Mali and Angola.
“This is a clear example of how children are making the dangerous journey from their home countries and how criminal organizations are trafficking children across the southern border and further into the interior.” Mr. Olivarez continued. “Regardless of political views, it is unacceptable for children to be exposed to dangerous criminal trafficking networks.”
He explained that “hundreds of thousands” of children have gone missing while traveling to the United States, noting that “there is no one.” [is] Except for the men and women who are on the front lines every day, ensuring the safety and security of these children. ”
“Despite years of criticism, the reality is that many children are exploited, trafficked and never have their voices heard again,” he added.
Olivares said Texas DPS has rescued more than 900 children as part of Gov. Greg Abbott's Operation Lone Star.
More than 110,000 unaccompanied minors crossed the border in 2024, according to Customs and Border Protection data.
