Military Lawyers Assigned for Prosecution in D.C.

Twenty Judge Advocate General (JAG) lawyers from the U.S. military’s legal branch are set to handle civil lawsuits in Washington, D.C., as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to combat crime. A representative from the U.S. Lawyer’s Office confirmed this decision, indicating that these military attorneys will pursue misdemeanor offenses.

“The assignment of these 20 JAG members to my office showcases President Trump’s dedication to reducing crime in the district,” stated U.S. Attorney Janine Piro.

National Guard Deployed Amid Crime Surge

On August 11, President Donald Trump announced the mobilization of the federal government in Washington, D.C., to address ongoing crime issues. “I have deployed the National Guard to restore law and order in D.C.,” he told reporters, emphasizing their necessary role.

Two days following this announcement, the Metropolitan Police Department reported that no murders occurred in the city. As of now, approximately 800 National Guard troops have been stationed in D.C., alongside an influx of federal law enforcement officials aimed at tackling local crime.

Arrests Made Under New Initiative

Attorney General Pam Bondy revealed that federal law enforcement has arrested 630 individuals since the launch of this initiative, with 77 apprehended just on Wednesday. Notably, 24 were identified as illegal immigrants.

“Our mission to enhance safety in D.C. continues unabated,” she affirmed. Additionally, FBI Director Kash Patel highlighted that the FBI played a part in 31 arrests the previous night, which included charges for illegal firearms, drug offenses, theft, and assaults.

“This is a collaborative effort involving several federal agencies working tirelessly around the clock to ensure your capital remains safe,” Patel added.
